Mission Investors Exchange is pleased to announce its 14th Mission Investing Institute, from Monday, June 19 through Wednesday, June 21, 2017, at the Troy, Michigan offices of The Kresge Foundation.

This intensive educational program is designed for foundations to better engage and strengthen their own practices with curriculum made for both newcomers and seasoned mission investors. Participants in this two-and-a-half-day interactive learning experience will be immersed in the broad spectrum of impact investing with emphasis on the mission focus of foundations. Attendees have multiple occasions to network and learn from fellow foundation professionals in small settings. Sessions are led by Mission Investors Exchange members and foundation professionals with deep impact investing experience.

The updated curriculum, developed especially for foundation staff and trustees, includes brief presentations and deep dive case study examples on issue areas such as the internal administration and organizational dynamics of foundations, employing a diversity, equity & inclusion (DEI) lens, investing in clean energy and water infrastructure, the power of guarantees, and using the foundation’s position as a shareholder to create impact.

The Institute approach utilizes practical tools and resources, small group work, and concrete examples to address topics such as:

  • The risk and return conversation
  • Building and articulating the case for mission investing with community partners, colleagues, trustees, and advisors
  • Priming deal flow and building infrastructure in place
  • Identifying, monitoring & reporting financial and social metrics
  • Working collaboratively
  • Applying the learnings

Participants will learn side-by-side with other foundations how to develop and implement mission investing strategies and how to address organizational challenges and opportunities that are ripe for building healthy communities.

This training is intended for foundation trustees and staff as well as other philanthropic asset owners.

Please register early. Participation is limited to 50 participants. For questions, please contact Phuong Pham at ppham@missioninvestors.org.
